IT IS IMPORTANT TO RAISE ENVIROMENTAL AWARENESS OF STUDENTS

President of Municipality of Palilula Boban Džunić and Palilula Assembly President Milos Srojković visited a branch of elementary school "Desanka Maksimovic" in Novo Selo, where they, as part of the project "Living Green", that the municipality implemented under IPA cross-border cooperation with the Republic of Bulgaria, planted conifers with students of this educational institution.

This project and program activities includes the arrangements of the school yard and the yard space on the territory of Palilula, and involves planting 30 seedlings of coniferous trees in the courtyard of affiliated primary school "Desanka Maksimovic" in Novo Selo. The first seedlings were symbolically planted by Boban Džunic, President of Municipality, and Milos Stojkovic, Assembly President of Palilula. "These kids have to show their parents, neighbors and elderly people on how to conserve nature. We have to change the consciousness of our fellow citizens, our neighbors in order to preserve our environment. The task is to help them achieve that", said on this occasion president of Municipality Boban Džunić. Luka Kovacevic, a student of this school, who facilitated the planting of conifers with his friends, said that the trees will be watered and kept in order as soon as possible, and he hopes that the the yard will be nice and green. Assistant Director of Elementary School "Desanka Maksimovic" Nebojsa Jovic, explained that they launched an educational campaign during last month, titled "Tree of the generation", which idea is that each class plants a tree to be cultivated as a mini – project, that defines the class. The action was joined by a nature lover Ivan Jušković, who advocate planting oak that was once the dominant species in this area. Activities of greening the devastated areas for many years is supported by the Serbian media ecology network - EKOpolis, who is the promoter of the global environmental campaign "Clean up the world”.  “We planted a large number of evergreen trees. The campaign was given a permanent character and we shall not give up until this yard  becomes environmentally friendly”, said Nebojsa Jovic. According to the president of Municipality, the municipality of Palilula is part of the "Living Green" , in cooperation with the municipality partnrrskom Ichtiman in Bigarskoj , with the help of European funds, this year has already completed some of the activities foreseen in the project . " One of the activities is the planting of trees in primary schools , so we will do in the coming weeks throughout Palilula and in some kindergartens ," said President Džunić . He added that the importance of action in the framework of this project , and environmentally friendly, but primarily educational , because it is important to draw attention to the children the importance of environmental protection. According to the president of Municipality of Palilula, the municipality has already completed some of the activities foreseen in the project "Living Green”, in cooperation with the municipality Ichtiman in Bulgaria, with the help of European funds, during this year. "One of the activities is the planting of trees in primary schools, so we will do that in the coming weeks throughout Palilula and in some kindergartens," said President Džunić. He added that the importance of the action in the framework of this project is not only to behave environmentally friendly, but primarily to educate, because it is important to draw attention of the children to the importance of environmental protection. Primary school "Desanka Maksimovic", which is based in Cokot, with its protruding departments gathers 350 students, has two preschool groups, two classes in grades first to eighth grade. To excel in the educational activities of schools, last year they received Sava award, the highest state award for work in education and the highest award of the City of Niš. (ЕКОполис)
